What is Mizudo?

Mizudo began with an idea born of necessity. I started developing this idea after a much needed respite from years spent working tirelessly in dynamic environments that required a substantial level of competence in risk analysis.

It was during this reflective period of my life that I began to find new ways to challenge myself in utilizing my highly specialized and specified skillset I had developed in the previous 10+ years.

As I continued to shape the path before me, it became evident that my analytical mind was best served in helping a small business find optimization in its operation. Following that success I found myself tackling the challenge of a much larger business, and finding ways to bring it beyond a plateau to new heights in success and profitability.

It became evident after these experiences that I was best served taking these skills and offering them as a service to my community, so as to lift up others and assist them in succeeding and then exceeding their goals, realizing their potential in business and ultimately in life.

The methodology lies behind the name. A combination of the Japanese words for “water” and “way” speaks to the principles of Zen our foundational principles are built upon. Water flows over its environment, carving its own path through time. Harnessing this ideology speaks to the nature of business and life. By seeking this state of fluidity, we can overcome the challenges placed in our way and bring to light our vision.

Who is mizudo?

Mizudo Consulting was started by me, August Fleer, a ski professional turned business consultant.

I spent most of my childhood along the shores of Lake Geneva, WI and found myself returning here as an adult to find a way in which I could bring back much of my worldly knowledge and experience in such a way that could positively impact my hometown community.

Much of my adult life was spent in the mountains: Originally the Rockies in Colorado, then the Wasatch in Utah, the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest, the Alaska range and eventually all the way to Hokkaido, Japan and Queenstown, New Zealand.

Throughout this decade plus tenure, I worked in a variety of roles but primarily as a Ski Patroller and Mountain Guide. The intensity of these dynamic roles quite literally meant that my decision-making, on nearly a daily basis, often drew a line between life and death.

This forced me to be keenly aware of my surroundings and engraved into my mind a certain clarity of thought that has served me well even now that I’ve retired from those long days spent in the mountains.

I’ve always found myself in operational roles when not working in the mountains: Managing local marinas, the chief operator of a vineyard in California, the accounting and admin of a few medical spas, the list goes on….

When I look back at my life and all of its experiences holistically the theme that shines through is this highly analytical mindset that has enabled me to enact upon my passion for helping others.

Why mizudo?

And that is exactly what Mizudo is here to do. I’m here to take my educations in business, neurobiology, and risk assessment and apply them in a way that allows others to succeed. Because I believe that operating your own business is the path to autonomy, and autonomy over your time is the way to a fulfilled and satisfied life.

This autonomy is only available to those who take the correct calculated risks in order to ensure that their business is performing at it’s most optimum efficiency. If however, they are missing the mark, that autonomy can quickly dissipate leaving the owners and employees of a struggling business at the mercy of its inefficiencies.

With Mizudo, you’ll get a personalized experience and specialized service that you can’t find elsewhere. I am here every step of the way to ensure that you succeed and can start embracing the freedoms that come with a business that runs at its highest optimum capacity so it requires less work from you and allow more time spent living life with those you love.

You gain more than a business consultant with Mizudo, you gain a business partner. Somebody who is invested and ready to work tirelessly for your success. Even though I work from a goal-oriented stance, I operate from a process-oriented perspective, and that is because I truly enjoy the time spent creating something incredible from the ground-up, or taking something that exists and finding ways upon which to improve and perfect it.
